From the popular series of books by Sophie Kinsella, Isla Fisher stars as Rebecca Bloomwood, a journalist with a little problem. She is a shopaholic.

Rebecca loves to shop. Shop, shop, shop. But she is running up credit card debts faster than she can spend the money she doesn’t have. And Rebecca loves fashion. She speaks Prada, Dolce and Gabbana, and Gucci. She has style, flair, and a great personality. What she doesn’t have is money. When the magazine she works for goes under, she doesn’t even have a job.

Writing for a Financial Magazine Instead of a Fashion Magazine

Her dream job would be to write for Alette, the big-time fashion magazine. She would be perfect for that job. After all, fashion is her life. Unfortunately, the only magazine hiring is Successful Savings, a financial magazine and definitely not anything she knows about.

So Rebecca sends off her sample article to Alette in hopes that the magazine will hire her, but the article she sent to Alette mistakenly gets sent to Successful Savings. Lo and behold, she gets the job with that publication because the editor thinks Rebecca’s article about fashion is a metaphor for savings. The magazine needs a new, fresh angle and Rebecca definitely has that. Desperately needing money she begrudgingly takes the job. After all, money is money. But she has to find a way to write about something she knows nothing and do it convincingly.

Rebecca becomes a big successful writer for Successful Savings, making this the biggest irony because she is in debt up to her neck. What she doesn’t count on is the debt collector following her to her work.

Isla Fisher is the Perfect Shopaholic

Rebecca is a fun character who wreaks havoc in the Shopaholics Anonymous meetings, and Isla Fisher is absolutely wonderful in this part. After watching the movie, viewers might have the desire to go out and purchase a new outfit, pair of shoes, or scarf. Rebecca makes shopping so enticing.

For those who have read the Shopaholic books, they will love Isla Fisher in the role of Rebecca. And although the books take place in England, this story beautifully lends itself to the United States, and most especially, Fisher as the perky yet financially-challenged character. People who have read the books and now seen this film will be hoping for the stories to continue. After all, Hollywood is a town of sequels, and a sequel to this would be well deserved.

Bonus Features on the Blu-ray

The bonus features on the two-disc Special Edition Blu-ray version includes a digital disc for viewing on other players. This is handy for transferring the movie onto a computer or a portable player. Other bonus features include bloopers, deleted scenes, and a music video.
