Where's the romance this February? Not on DVDs unfortunately.

Maybe viewers can enjoy Valentine’s Day at the movie theaters this year because romance doesn’t seem to be a priority on this month’s DVD releases. With a few notable exceptions, there’s not much romance in this collection of February DVD releases. Luckily plenty of other great new movies are available to rent or purchase this month. Some of the best selections are listed below.

Romantic DVD Releases for February 2009

  • Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist (February 3): This romantic comedy is based on a young adult novel about two high school seniors (Michael Cera and Kat Dennings) who fall in love during an adventurous night in New York.

  • Nights in Rodanthe (February 10): This romantic drama takes place at a Rodanthe, North Carolina, inn where a man (Richard Gere) and woman (Diane Lane) take shelter from a storm (also on Blue-ray).

  • Pretty Woman (February 10): The first (and most successful) pairing of Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in a rags-to-riches romance about a good-looking prostitute (on Blu-ray).

Comedy DVD Releases for February 2009

  • Bottle Shock (February 3): Alan Rickman and Bill Pullman in a dramatic comedy about competition in the winery business.

  • Zack and Miri Make a Porno (February 3): In this Blu-ray version, Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks make a blue movie.

  • Back to the Future (February 10): Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd in a two-disc special edition DVD action-packed adventure about a time-traveling teenaged boy.

  • My Name is Bruce (February 10): A horror comedy starring Bruce Campbell (Widescreen and Blue-ray).

  • High School Musical 3: Senior Year (February 17): Zac Efon and Venessa Hudgens are back again as those fun-loving high school students in a movie that enjoyed a theatrical release (also in an extended version and Blu-ray).

  • What Just Happened (February 24): Robert DeNiro stars in a dark comedy about Hollywood (also on Blu-ray).
Dramatic Releases for February 2009

  • The Secret Life of Bees (February 3): Queen Latifah and Jennifer Hudson in a story about race relations in the 1960s Deep South.

  • Yentl (February 3): In this two-disc extended director’s cut of the 1983 film, Barbra Streisand and Mandy Patinkin star as Yeshiva students devoted to studying the Torah.

  • W. (February 10): Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Banks in a semi-fact/semi-fiction account of the early years of George W. Bush and his presidency (Fullscreen, Widescreen, and Blu-ray).

  • Raging Bull (February 10): Robert DeNiro in a stunning boxing drama that was a box office success (Blu-ray).

  • Donnie Darko (February 10): Jake Gyllenhaal and Jena Malone in a dark science fiction drama about a time-traveling teen (Blu-ray).

  • Changeling (February 17): Angelina Jolie stars as a single mother whose child disappears (Widescreen and Blu-ray).

  • Flash of Genius (February 17): Greg Kinnear stars as Bob Kearns, the man who invented the intermittent windshield wiper.

Documentary Releases for February 2009

  • Religulous (February 17): Bill Maher explores religious beliefs around the world.

  • Chris & Don. A Love Story (February 24): A documentary about the long-term romance between British writer Christopher Isherwood and the much-younger American portrait painter Don Bachardy.
